The Salt Lake County Metro Jail in Utah has been chosen to receive the 2001 Facility of the Year Award from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). Only one facility is recognized each year from among more than 500 prisons, jails, detention, and confinement facilities who participate in the NCCHC accreditation program. NCCHC is a not-for-profit organization working to improve the quality and efficiency of health care in prisons and jails. The award recognizes a number of improvements implemented by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's department at the Metro Jail. 'The Committee noted the degree and magnitude of positive change evident in your facility's medical program over the last three years,' said NCCHC president Edward A. Harrison in notifying Sheriff Aaron Kennard of the award. 'You and your team have transformed the jail into a model jail health care delivery system.' Official presentation of the award takes place at a special ceremony at the National Conference on Correctional Health Care, November 12 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. |
