The final two prisoners who escaped from a jail were arrested early Thursday, authorities said. Three male prisoners and one female prisoner overpowered officers and escaped from the Socorro County Detention Center on Wednesday, jail officials said. Two male prisoners were recaptured soon afterward. Early Thursday, Alfredo San Juan, 22, was arrested at a campground at San Lorenzo Canyon, about 17 miles northwest of town, Socorro police Lt. E.P. Higgs said. Police were able to find out where San Juan was hiding by questioning his ex-girlfriend. San Juan had been held on an open count of murder, he said. Sonia Arquijo, 32, surrendered, Higgs said. Three male prisoners overpowered two officers and locked them in a cell, although one officer was able to dial 911 before being taken into the cell, he said. A female officer was choked until she lost consciousness, while the male officer also was beaten unconscious. One prisoner went to the women's side of the jail and released Arquijo, Higgs said. |
