Brazil's best-known drug lord has proposed that fellow inmate Gloria Trevi, Mexico's fallen queen of pop, lighten up his time behind bars with a bit of 'jailhouse rock,' a Brazilian newspaper reported recently.
Luiz Fernando da Costa, who is awaiting sentencing in the same Brasilia jail as Trevi, allegedly offered to pay the fallen singer $40,000 for an exclusive musical performance behind bars, the popular daily Extra reported.
But the pop star refused the offer, which the drug kingpin made to her during an exercise break in the yard of the special jail, according to the paper. Trevi, known for her provocative outfits and lyrics, was one of Latin America's top entertainers in the 1990s.
Trevi has been in the jail, set aside for special high-profile inmates, for more than a year awaiting extradition to Mexico where she faces charges of sexual abuse.
The drug runner is known in Brazil as Fernandinho Beira-Mar (Freddy Seashore) for his rule of the drug trade in a Rio de Janeiro shantytown, where he allegedly had hordes of female admirers when he was at the peak of his career. He was arrested in May in Colombia and brought to Brazil.
