An escaped murderer serving two life sentences in South Carolina for drowning his half sister and nephew was captured by police Sunday. Anthony Brown, 30, was tracked to an abandoned house, said authorities who were tipped off to his whereabouts. Brown is believed to have escaped from the state's maximum-security prison Friday. He had been gone about 12 hours before a routine prison count showed he was missing from the Lieber Correctional Institution. Prison officials think Brown hid inside the 18-wheel tractor-trailer while it was being loaded inside the prison. Brown then cut a 10-inch hole in the side of the trailer after it was parked outside the prison fence. Brown was 17 when was convicted in 1988 of beating Andrea Beach with a wrench after she refused to give him money for drugs, then tossing her and her 2-year-old son into the Black River where they both drowned. |
