A Broward County, Fla., jail inmate apparently fell, jumped or was pushed to his death last week shortly after appearing in magistrate's court, according to family members who said they have been told the death is being investigated as a homicide. Gary Kane, 50, of Fort Lauderdale, was picked up in Deerfield Beach on Wednesday night by the Broward Sheriff's Office and charged with having a stun gun and a badge in his car, said his niece Tracy Caldwell, of Brick, N.J. Caldwell said the family received a call from the Broward Sheriff's Office telling them that Kane had died in jail and his death was possibly a homicide. Cheryl Stopnick, director of media relations for the Broward Sheriff's Office, said Sunday evening she had heard about Kane's death, but that she could not confirm that there is a homicide investigation. back to top |
