A Massachusetts man is suing Cornell Companies Inc., which currently runs the Santa Fe County jail, alleging that while incarcerated there two years ago, he was beat up by inmates for being a snitch. Brian Stengel, who used to live in Santa Fe and was incarcerated at the jail in 1999 on charges of violating parole, alleges in a lawsuit filed last week that the senior warden, Robert Lucero, told inmates in his housing unit that Stengel was 'snitching' to authorities about wrongful conduct of other inmates. Stengel also is suing Lucero, Warden Lawrence Barreras, the County Board of Commissioners and Sheriff Ray Sisneros. The lawsuit claims that shortly after Lucero made the announcement about the snitch, Stengel was assaulted and badly injured by other inmates with the knowledge of Barreras, Sisneros and the company. The lawsuit claims the jail was inadequately supervised and authorities acted in a negligent manner. |

This article does not convey the entire story. I am not, nor have I ever, 'snitched' on anyone. I won this lawsuit and settled at $35,000. If you work in the corrections industry then I would advise you to find work elsewhere; perhaps flipping burgers? Because your job is coming to an end as the rehabilitation movement is gaining speed.
