Corizon Awarded Rikers Island Contract

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., (Jan. 28, 2013) - Corizon, the nation’s leader in correctional healthcare solutions, announced it has been awarded a new contract to provide medical services for Rikers Island, effective January 1, 2013.

The contract will continue Corizon’s partnership with the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and the city’s jail system. The agreement is for three years, with one three-year renewal opportunity. Corizon and its predecessor companies have held the contract since 2001. 

“Our long-term partnership with the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has allowed Corizon to deliver quality, cost-effective healthcare to our Rikers’ patients since 2001,” said Rich Hallworth, Corizon’s Chief Executive Officer. “We look forward to continuing this long-standing partnership for many years to come.”

The new contract allows Corizon to provide comprehensive medical care to approximately 11,000 inmates in the Rikers Island system. One of the tools the partnership will continue to leverage is the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, which enables ongoing enhancement in the quality of care Corizon provides to its patients.

Among other services, Corizon’s team will perform a wide variety of on- and off-site functions, including medical, dental, pharmaceutical, diagnostic and chronic care, as well as administrative, staffing, information technology and management services.
