Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. Wins Statewide Contract in Massachusetts

Article:
Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. was recently awarded a contract by the Massachusetts Department of Correction to deliver in-prison substance abuse and recidivism reduction treatment throughout the state's correctional system. Spectrum proposed a comprehensive, coordinated and cost-effective continuum encompassing residential, non-residential and aftercare treatment services for male and female inmates.

Spectrum takes special pride in its longstanding success in the organization's home state. Spectrum was awarded its first contract by the Massachusetts Department of Correction in 1993. Services have expanded significantly over time and the contract has since been re-awarded to Spectrum three times.

"As a not-for-profit provider in seven state correctional systems we've succeeded in striking a balance between public safety, rehabilitation and being a fiscally prudent steward of public dollars by reducing the tax payer burden of re-incarceration," said Christopher Petrozzi, Senior Vice President of Correctional Services. "We look forward to building upon our long-standing partnership with the Department in providing research driven, evidence-based programming founded on the principles of effective correctional treatment and best practices."

A recent evaluation conducted by the Massachusetts Department of Correction showed that a 2011 cohort of Spectrum program completers released from medium security recidivated twenty-eight percent less than the recidivism rate for offenders overall.

Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit substance abuse and mental health treatment provider. In addition to Massachusetts, Spectrum operates programs in Rhode Island, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Tennessee and Washington State - serving more than 45,000 adults and at-risk youth each year.
