Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction selects Elmo-Tech TRaCE inmate tracking and officer duress system

Article:

Elmo-Tech Ltd., a global provider of leading electronic monitoring technologies for the
corrections industry, announces the selection of its TRaCE inmate tracking and officer
duress system by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC).

This is the 5th TRaCE installation in the US, with Elmo-Tech systems already operating in Minnesota and California and additional ones being utilized in Europe. The system will be installed in a female correctional facility in Cleveland, Ohio. Using wireless technology, the TRaCE system provides real-time inmate and staff location and tracking capabilities inside correctional facilities and within their surrounding areas. TRaCE also functions as an officer duress system, facilitating requests for immediate assistance by officers to their exact location upon call.

The Ohio DRC is considering deployment of this technology in additional jail facilities as a way of increasing prison security and reducing operational costs. The DRC has also been deploying Elmo-Tech's TRaCEr systems. The TRaCEr, a part of the TRaCE product line, is a palm sized portable monitoring device that is used to monitor groups of offenders while on transit or at work outside penitentiary facilities.

Further potential for similar systems lies in Ohio's approximate 140 correctional facilities
housing 65,000 inmates at the state and local level. On a national scale, there are over
1,500 state, federal and privately operated correctional facilities in the United States. In
2004, the US prison and jail population reached approximately 2 million.
Elmo-Tech's President, Yoav Reisman, commented, "We are pleased with this opportunity to continue our work with the Ohio DRC and are confident that implementation of Elmo-Tech's TRaCE system will facilitate their efforts to improve prison safety and operations."

He added, "This contract provides further evidence of the market need for technologically
advanced facility security management systems."
