Former BOP Official Pleads Guilty to Sex with Inmate

A female former U.S. Bureau of Prisons supervisor pleaded guilty Monday to having sex multiple times with a male prisoner at a maximum-security jail in Colorado that houses some of America's most notorious criminals.
Kellie Kissinger admitted in U.S. District Court in Denver to having sex with inmate Gerald Bailey at least 13 times between January and May 2000 and pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a ward.
The encounters took place at the U.S. Penitentiary in Florence, Colorado, where Kissinger, 34, served from October 2000 to May 2001 as a unit manager overseeing other prison officers.
Kissinger and another prison employee, Christine Achenbach, were indicted by a federal grand jury in July for having sex with inmates, following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of the Inspector General.
In exchange for the guilty plea and agreeing to testify against Achenbach in her upcoming trial, federal prosecutors dropped three additional counts against Kissinger for having sex with two other inmates.
Prosecutors also agreed to recommend that Kissinger be sentenced to probation for cooperating with authorities, although she could be sentenced to a maximum of six months in prison and fined $5,000, according to lawyers for both sides. Sentencing is scheduled for December 23, they said.
Achenbach, 42, a former spokeswoman for the prison, is scheduled to go on trial September 9 for allegedly having sex with two inmates including Ollie Perriman, who is serving a life sentence for cocaine trafficking.
The Florence prison is part of the complex that includes Supermax, the nation's highest-security lockup, which houses some of the most notorious inmates in the United States.
Among the unit's prisoners are Unabomber Ted Kaczynski and Ramzi Yousef, who was convicted and sentenced to 240 years in prison for masterminding the 1993 World Trade Center bombing in New York City.
