Final 10-minute plea for funds

CALIFORNIA - Ten minutes. After months of preparation and reams of documentation, San Joaquin County officials made their final pitch for state funding needed to expand the badly overcrowded County Jail. They had 10 minutes Wednesday before the state Corrections Standards Authority to plead their case. They joined 21 other counties who made their appeals in rapid-fire presentations.

San Joaquin, Calaveras and Amador counties soon will learn whether they'll get a slice of the $750 million in state funds scheduled to help expand local jails. Read more.
