Danny Ray Poplin, Jr. is a Carmichael man sentenced for killing an unborn baby. He has been sentenced to 50-years-to-life imprisonment for killing his girlfriend’s unborn baby by stabbing her in the stomach. He has also been sentenced to 12-years for corporal injury and assault in the incident. He will serve his 50-years-to-life sentence following his 12-year sentence. The incident happened on December 31, 2006 when Danny Ray Poplin, Jr., 32-years-old, attacked his girlfriend, Vanessa Roberts, 28-years-old. His motive is alleged to be his suspicion that the baby wasn’t his, but was that of another man. DNA testing later proved that the baby was, in fact, Poplin’s child. Roberts was 6-months pregnant at the time of the stabbing. The couple have another child together. Poplin and Roberts are both deaf. He signed to his girlfriend before he stabbed her that it was another man’s semen in her. They had been dating for 7-years and the court found no evidence of infidelity.
