HCF gets new instructor, three classes for inmates |

The Hutchinson Correctional Facility will reintegrate three classes in the prison to further prepare inmates with their transition back into the community. In the summer, the prison will introduce electrical, plumbing and heating and air conditioning classes. The classes are a part of the facility’s Greenbush Vocational Program in partnership with the Hutchinson Community College. “Ninety-seven percent of all inmates will eventually be released (from prison),” said HCF spokesman Dirk Moss. “The goal is to have them go back into the community and be a success and surround themselves with family, friends or church support.” The three vocational classes were vacant for 10 months as Greenbush and HCF personnel had to juggle with the budget, locate a qualified instructor and deal with the stigma of a prison.
