Inmates train for fire season

REDWAY, Calif. -

A partnership between CAL FIRE and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is helping fire crews prepare for the upcoming fire season, which begins on June 8.

Inmates at the Eel River Conservation Camp are going through the Redwood Coast Fire Preparedness exercise. The exercise is a three day training course to test the knowledge and abilities of the inmates in the program.

“The inmates actually really strive to do a good job, especially for the event," Captain Owen Head said. "They want to really show their pride and their crew, and how well they can do and cut line. And it's really a neat thing to be a part of, and watch them do their job.”
