Prison chapel will change lives at Muskegon's E.C. Brooks, warden says

MUSKEGON, MI – A longtime dream of prison Warden Mary Berghuis is becoming a reality.

On Sunday, May 17, officials dedicated a new, privately funded chapel at Earnest C. Brooks Correctional Facility, one of two state prisons in Muskegon that Berghuis runs as warden.

The Holy Grounds All-Faiths Chapel, funded by donations, will serve the prisoners who now attend religious studies and services in the prison gym and classrooms.

The chapel will serve prisoners of all faiths, Berghuis said – Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Sikh or any other. "We have a diverse population," she said.
