DOH official: Don't forget inmates in fight vs HIV |

INMATES may be confined to prison cells but they are not insulated from the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This was the reminder of Department of Health (DOH) – Mimaropa Regional Director Eduardo Janairo on Monday, saying inmates should not be excluded from anti-HIV campaigns. He said prison cells are among the areas where HIV could easily spread. “Congestion in cells only increases the spread of infections making HIV-positive individuals more susceptible to getting ill,” said Janairo. Aside from jail congestion, the health official said HIV transmission among inmates can happen through needle sharing, and tattooing using homemade and unsterile equipment. Read More. |
