U.S. Marshals continue search for escaped prisoner |

MIDWAY, Ga. (WJCL) — Liberty County Sheriff’s Office deputies believe an escaped prisoner has left Liberty County. They have stopped their search. But U.S. Marshals are following up on other leads. Just after 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon, multiple agencies including U.S. Marshals and the Liberty County Sheriffs office began searching for 23 year old Chaney Hankins. “The department of corrections has their K-9 dogs, tracking dogs and currently we are working the area to try to establish a track and locate and apprehend the individual,” said LCSO Major Jeffrey Hein. He said the prisoner out of the Effingham Correctional facility walked away from work detail. Major Hein believes 5 – 7 other prisoners were working and one corrections officer was on duty.
