Commissioner reinstates state inmate labor |

It’s been about 25 years since any Limestone County commissioner relied on state inmate labor to get work done in his district, but District 3 Commissioner Jason Black has brought the practice back. “What I can get done with them in a day’s time is mind-blowing,” Black said. “They work very, very hard.” Black said the practice of using inmate labor was suspended years ago because allegations surfaced that inmates “weren’t being used properly.” The inmates cost the county $15 per day, per inmate, according to Department of Corrections Spokesman Robert Horton.
