Michigan prison spokesman: Jackson-area inmates cutting potatoes find maggots, delaying lunch

BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The state says inmates at a Jackson-area prison found maggots while cutting up raw potatoes in a food preparation area.

Corrections Department spokesman Chris Gautz says the fly larvae were found Tuesday during lunch preparations at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility in Jackson County's Blackman Township.

Philadelphia-based Aramark Correctional Services operates Michigan's prison food services. Gautz says an Aramark worker spotted the maggots, and inmates were returned to their housing units for about an hour while kitchen was cleaned.
