Johnson County attorney leaving office for corrections job

TECUMSEH, Neb. (AP) — The Johnson County attorney is leaving her elected post to become the legal counsel for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services in Lincoln.

Nebraska City radio station KNCY reports (http://bit.ly/1KDAiHc ) that Julie Smith will resign effective June 19. A department spokesman said Wednesday that she'll start her new job on June 22.

Smith interned at the Johnson County attorney's office while in law school in 2003 and joined the office as a deputy county attorney in 2004. She was elected in November to her third term as county attorney.
