State Shuts Down Prison Welding Shop for Poor Air Quality |

Stillwater, MN (KSTP) -Inmates who worked in a welding shop at a state prison in Minnesota were potentially exposed to hazardous levels of airborne metal and chemicals months after the state identified the safety concerns. A report from the Minnesota Department of Corrections shows the air quality in the MINNCOR welding shop at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater was tested Oct. 14, 2014. The Safety Administrator for MCF-Stillwater signed a report detailing recommendations to address the safety concerns Feb. 25, 2015, after the test results revealed the amount of chemicals in the air exceeded exposure limits.
