Social service intervention needed for all prisoners re-entering society |

ROCKFORD — Parolees are not required to be enrolled in case management as a condition for release, but a growing number of people are beginning to wonder: Why not? Of the 235 violent offenders freed from prison since November 2013, sent to Rockford and identified as candidates to participate in a social service case-management program, 167 individuals declined to do so. Seventy-six of those who declined, or 45.5 percent, went on to re-offend, committing crimes such as homicide, sexual assault, aggravated battery and robbery. Read More. |
