Almost a year ago in July, William S. Key inmate and escapee Michael J. Weber’s remains were found in a field near the correctional facility from which he fled on January 7, 2012. In April this year the Oklahoma Medical Examiner announced in a letter to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections they had identified the remains to be those of Weber. However, as of Thursday, the man’s name and prison number, DOC #605600 were still listed on the Department of Correction’s website as an active escapee. Oklahoma Department of Corrections utilizes the website escapee page usually within hours of when any Oklahoma inmate goes missing. According to DOC spokeswoman Terri Watkins, Weber’s name is still on the escapee register because while his remains have been somewhat reliably identified through the comparison of past chest x-rays as being the William S. Key escapee, there is still an ongoing probe to definitively identify the scattered bones found in the field just south of Forth Supply in July last year. Read More. |
