FORT EDWARD A former Washington County inmate with an extensive criminal history has filed a lawsuit alleging that staff negligence allowed another inmate to beat him severely. Joseph R. Gourd, 33, who previously lived in Ballston Spa and Glens Falls, alleges that the incident happened on Dec. 9, 2013 at about 12:10 p.m. in the Warren County Correctional Facility. He claims that the jail staff did not provide adequate supervision, which allowed another inmate to beat him. Gourd suffered fractures of his face, eye socket and nose, according to the lawsuit. The named defendants in the case are Washington County, the Washington County Correctional Facility and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The lawsuit was initially filed in March in New York State Supreme Court of Washington County, but since has been transferred to the federal U.S. District Court Northern Division. Read More. |
