Multiple stabbing incidents at eastern U.P. prison |

KINCHELOE -- Nineteen inmates have been stabbed at the Kinross Correctional Facility. The incident at the eastern Upper Peninsula prison happened over three days last week. Six inmates required medical attention at a hospital outside prison walls. Michigan Department of Corrections spokesperson Chris Gautz says the stabbings and assaults started between two inmates on July 20. That altercation led to others assaults involving inmates over the next couple of days. The attacks happened in the exercise yard and in the housing units.
