Some San Quentin services restored as investigation into Legionnaires’ outbreak continues

San Quentin State Prison is beginning to add back services as the investigation continues into an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease.

Hot evening meals resumed Wednesday and inmates began rotating through showers in portable units brought to the prison over the weekend, officials with the state Department of Corrections said. All general population and reception center inmates had received showers as of Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

“(San Quentin) officials are still working to provide showers to inmates in the Administrative Segregation Unit and Condemned Row,” said Dana Simas, state corrections department spokeswoman, in a written statement.

Under normal circumstances, inmates are allowed a five-minute shower every other day, Simas said.
