Sex Offenders Not Required to Post Signs on Halloween |

Sex offenders on parole in California will no longer have to post signs warning trick-or-treaters to stay away on Halloween night. The California State Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reached a compromise with a group challenging "Operation Boo." The program enforces special Halloween restrictions for parolees who are sex offenders. This year, the state will not require sex offenders to post a sign on their door for the holiday. Earlier this month, a sex offender on parole and the "California Reform Sex Offender Laws" group filed a lawsuit in San Diego Federal Court over the program. They say the sign requirement is unconstitutional, and puts sex offenders in danger. "This is when people are normally out and creating mischief, but sometimes it gets worse than mischief, it gets more dangerous than mischief," said Janice Bellucci, a sex offender reform law advocate.
