John Bel Edwards keeps Bobby Jindal's prisons head, makes other cabinet appointments |

Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards will retain Jimmy LeBlanc, an appointee of Gov. Bobby Jindal, to run the Louisiana Department of Corrections, despite recent concerns over Angola Warden Burl Cain. LeBlanc served as head of the Department of Corrections during Jindal's entire term. The agency includes 11 prisons and other law enforcement units. Angola -- run by Cain for decades -- is the nation's largest maximum security prison and under LeBlanc's direct watch. Cain, who has a close relationship with LeBlanc, has decided to retire from Angola after allegations of improper business relationships and preferential prisoner treatment were brought to light by a media investigation. He has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. The Louisiana State Police launched an investigation into the matter last month. Read More. |
