Scott Walker, Brad Schimel disagree on why Lincoln Hills staff details withheld

Madison — Gov. Scott Walker said Wednesday he believed his administration was withholding information about the taxpayer cost of having correctional staff on paid leave because of a request from the office of Attorney General Brad Schimel — a claim Schimel aides denied.

Wednesday's comments marked a rare public disagreement between two top Republicans.

Walker brought up Schimel's Department of Justice in explaining why his administration was not detailing the cost of putting employees at Lincoln Hills School on paid leave while they are investigated for activities at the Northwoods secure institution for teenagers.

"Part of it is I believe is there are discussions with the Department of Justice that tried to make sure they're in compliance with the Department of Justice, their request in the ongoing investigation," Walker told reporters.
