Marco J. Sparandeo collected signatures to get on the June ballot using the name he used during his 11 years as a Passaic County sheriff’s officer, Joseph Sparandeo. Problem is, his birth name listed on his driver’s license is Marco J. Sparandeo, and that caused a problem when he went to the county clerk’s office on Wednesday to submit his petition. The elections clerk refused to accept the petition when the names didn’t match, and instructed Sparandeo to collect the signatures all over again. He has until 4 p.m. on Monday to collect the required 140 signatures or he can’t enter the primary. “It was a stupid mistake on my part,” Sparandeo said. “The clerk was doing her job. My license says, ‘Marco J.’ but I go by Joseph. If you called me and said, ‘Hey, Marco’ I’d probably say, ‘wha?’” Read More. |
