Has Colorado's criminal, juvenile justice commission become obsolete? |

A commission designed nine years ago to address some of the state's toughest criminal justice issues has nearly ground to a halt, creating frustration for some lawmakers and causing others to bypass the group altogether. In its first six months of work, the state's Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice delivered 66 recommendations to state leaders. This year, the commission made only three recommendations to lawmakers on ways to improve the state's criminal justice system. "This year, I have been concerned that it really does seem like there is a definite slowing of their process and their willingness to really do the tough work," said Sen.
