LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - In March 2016, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services reported five inmate on staff assaults at state facilities involving 10 employees. With the recent assaults, what's behind the numbers? Prison Director Scott Frakes said, “Recently, I made the decision to notify the media when staff assaults occur within our facilities. I recognize this new information could lead one to assume staff assaults are more prevalent; however, it is the result of numerous steps the agency has taken, under my guidance, to be transparent and accountable to the citizens of Nebraska,” he said. “We are much more intentional about sharing our story and the work we do. Our strategic plan identifies safe employees as an outcome for the leading goal of One Team – One Vision. Keeping our employees safe is a priority.” 10/11 also obtained NDCS data from 2013 to 2015 on the number of inmate on staff assaults. Read More. |
