VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Authorities captured an inmate who escaped from the Van Zandt County Justice Center on Wednesday evening. According to officials with the Van Zandt County Sheriff's office, Jay Scott McEvers, 47, was captured in the area of County Road 3418 about five miles west of Canton on Thursday morning. In a press conference Thursday, Sheriff Lindsey Ray said he believes it was a bar of soap that McEvers used to fashion what looked like a firearm to aid in his escape. His mother was waiting in the parking lot and gave him a ride. The Sheriff believes the girlfriend was going to be the key player, but showed up late. Sheriff Lindsey said McEvers exploited a weakness in the facility. "Jailers weren't held against their will, but McEvers did exploit how he exited the building." Read More. |
