(Greenwood, Ind.) – An investigation is ongoing after a Metamora man was shot by police in Greenwood, Indiana.

Police say the suspect, 36-year-old Paul J. Kinnaman, led officers on a chase in a black BMW on Monday evening. That vehicle had previously been reported stolen.

The pursuit ended in a crash with four other vehicles at a busy intersection. Kinnaman reportedly got out of the car and pointed a gun towards officers. That’s when police opened fire, hitting Kinnaman in the stomach.

“The officer did what he had to do,” said Greenwood Police Department Assistant Chief Matthew Fillenwarth.
