I am trying to put together a SORT academy and was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what all i should include in the academy |

I strongly recomend to start with a use of force plolicy class. then train in the handling and dicipline of firearms (primary and secondary) as well as less lethal munitions and weapons. Follow with building entry (focus on your type of housing unit and practice with other type of lay out just in case you are call to assist at other facilities), rapelling, and blue print reading. On ocations recalling your team members will let you know their responce time, commitment to the team, and see how they will react on game day. There are more input I can give you if you need but these should get you started. Good luck. |

Our department has a great SORT school. It was designed after the Colorado SORT school. I am not personally involved in it, I am involded in the Negotiations school, but here is the contact for ours bhansen@dcs.state.ne.us. He is our Emergency Coordinator for the Nebraska Department of Corrections. He can give you the contact names of our SORT leaders that actually put on the school. Good luck. |

These guys run the SRT (Special Response Team) & STAR (Special Tactics And Response) Academy in Ohio, they may be able to give you some tips. |
