Description: COUNSELOR Abraxas I, Marienville, PA I. Statement of Function: The Counselor provides a full range of counseling/case management services to delinquent/dependent youth. II. Responsibilities, Duties, Standards of Performance The following statements reflect responsibilities and competencies necessary to describe the core function of this position. Measurement and evaluation criteria are outlined on the Competency Tracking Form that is used to track the evaluation of these competencies. ? Coordinates and implements case management activities ? Develops and implements treatment plans ? Provides individual counseling and completes related documentation ? Provides group counseling and completes related documentation ? Participates in and documents case consultations, including quarterly treatment reviews ? Writes progress/court reports as necessary and discharge summaries ? Attends court hearings ? Maintains regular contact and communicates effectively with juvenile probation officers/case workers, including them in the treatment process and updating them on clients' progress ? Maintains regular contact and communicates effectively with parents/legal guardians, including them in the treatment process and updating them on clients' progress ? Provides continuing care planning by making contacts to appropriate referrals and writing the plan ? Demonstrates appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management III. Communicates Effectively * Uses communication systems effectively (i.e. Communication Log, E-Mail, Shift Plans, Feedback Log, Status Recommendation Sheet, Incident Reports) * Maintains regular communication with co-workers * Communicates effectively with clients * Provides verbal and written updates to supervisors * Communicates effectively with support services * Maintains confidentiality of information as it relates to client information ? Demonstrates Professionalism in Performance of Job * Implements Abraxas policies on professional expectations, code of conduct, and other practices and procedures * Serves as a role model for clients * Supports agency mission, goals, and objectives * Demonstrates effort in professional development ? Effectively Supervises/Manages Clients * Interacts meaningfully with clients * Observes client behavior and intervenes appropriately * Uses Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills * Provides effective people security (headcounts, room checks, client movement, etc?) * Maintains knowledge of each client's problem areas ? Participates as a Member of the Treatment Team * Supports co-workers * Requests and accepts feedback * Gives feedback * Attends and participates in staff meetings * Participates in the development of shift plans * Coordinates and communicates consistently with co-workers * Performs other duties as assigned ? Completes Shift Tasks * Processes intakes and screens clients * Implements clinical schedule and coordinates client activities (i.e. family night, recreation, etc?) * Facilitates and documents various groups/meetings (i.e. issues, theme, thinking, D&A, process, etc?) * Supervises self-administration of medication * Supervise daily and weekly clean-ups ? Maintains Safety & Security of Clients & Facility * Conducts fire and safety checks * Conducts frequent headcounts * Knows and implements emergency procedures (evacuation, CPR/First Aid, etc?) IV. Qualifications Minimum Education/Experience: ? High School Diploma from an accredited High School, plus 4 years of related experience, or; ? Associates Degree from an accredited college or university, plus two (2) years of related experience, or; ? BA/BS Degree from an accredited college or university Required Skills/Abilities/Characteristics: * Ability to promote positive behavior and manage resistant behavior * Physical ability to safely and effectively manage aggressive behavior * Assertiveness, confidence and leadership abilities * Effective oral and written communication skills * Effective time management skills * At least twenty-one (21) years of age * A valid Pennsylvania drivers license * Valid registered vehicle insurance * Criminal Clearances (Act 33 and 34, specific State & child clearances and, if necessary, FBI) * Physical exam, including non-communicable disease documentation Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions (core competencies/job duties) of this job.
