Description: SUMMARY The position provides direct service work providing a full range of therapeutic services directed toward the care and rehabilitation of delinquent and dependent youth by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Performs individual and group counseling under the direction of an appropriate supervisor. Participates with, assists and supervises students in daily academic activities. Maintains an active caseload of up to 10 students. Follows policies and procedures of the program/facility including performance individual counseling, creating service plans, documentation of services and maintaining standards of student behavior. Prepares service plans and monthly reports on student behavior, attitude, achievement and overall progress with assistance from the treatment team. Develops and creates individualized student service plans with input from the student, parent and treatment team. Maintains student files accurately reflecting standards of contacting families, social services agencies, school district personnel, and student, while adhering to the standards determined by outside agencies. Provides relevant information to the treatment team as it pertains to transitioning students. Provides leadership and serves as a role model to students in the performance of therapeutic activities. Provides for physical safety and care of students while under supervision. Reports significant changes in the behavior, attitude, or physical condition of students to team members, supervisors and parents as necessary. Participates in conferences regarding students' behavior and progress. Complies with program/facility safety systems and building security. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance with current departmental practices. Participates in truancy response for students without legitimate excuses for absenteeism from school. Assumes team leadership responsibilities in the absence of an appropriate supervisor as directed. Attends staff meetings and conferences. Supports the Cornell Abraxas' philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care. Performs other duties as required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES The position has no supervisory responsibilities. COMPETENCIES Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED and minimum two years related experience in the juvenile field; Associates degree in related field and no experience. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to apply basic math skills concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills Word processing and email Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Other Skills and Abilities Other Qualifications At least twenty-one (21) years of age Criminal clearances (Act 33 and 34 clearances, specific State and child clearances and if necessary FBI) Non-communicable diseases physical exam Valid driver's license Valid registered vehicle insurance Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening Successful completion of orientation training Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and use legs to lift/move up to 50 lbs. or more. Ability to participate in and supervise therapeutic recreation activities structured for children and adolescents. May be required to intervene with and/or physically manage aggressive clients as trained by safe crisis management. The staff must work both alone and closely with others and may be subject to verbal and/or physical confrontation initiated by the students.
