| Description: | PROGRAM SERVICES HEALTH SERVICES/MENTAL HEALTH ARIZONA STATE PRISON COMPLEX-TUCSON TUCSON, ARIZONA POSITION #: ADC001809AHO UNCOVERED POSITION: THIS POSITION IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE PERSONNEL RULES OF ARIZONA STATE SERVICE. NOTE: THIS POSITION WILL BE OPEN UNTIL FILLED. This position will be responsible for seeing inmates; obtaining history files and conducting examinations appropriate to complaints; making diagnosis and recommending treatment; ordering lab tests, writing prescriptions, and accurately completing medical records in a timely manner; acting as an urgent responder on a rotating basis; reviewing medical records, conferring with Mental Health Team, and participating in clinical staff meetings; reviewing daily lab and x-ray reports; pulling medical records and documenting treatment changes as needed; attending Treatment Team meetings, Psychotropic Medication Review Board Hearings, and other meetings and training as required; completing written responses to inmate grievances, letters, lawsuits, and consultation requests; and performing other duties appropriate to the assignment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs): KNOWLEDGE: Of nature and causes of mental illness; evaluation and measurement instruments and techniques; current medications and treatment regimens for psychiatric disorders; interdisciplinary team operations; laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and policies pertaining to area of assignment; English grammar and punctuation; typing and personal computers and software appropriate to the assignment. SKILL: In providing appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic services to inmates with both acute and chronic psychiatric conditions; making appropriate referrals to specialists or hospitals; working within a multidiscipline mental health treatment team; interpersonal relations; oral and written communication; time management methods; decision making, problem solving, and conflict resolution. ABILITY: To work in a prison environment; establish solid working relationships; process data; learn and adhere to policies and procedures; conduct interviews to obtain accurate information; and provide quality psychiatric services. SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR: Must possess a medical degree an accredited School of Medicine or approved School of Osteopathic Medicine; AND completion of an approved internship with three years experience beyond completion of a residency in Psychiatry; OR experience of equal and appropriate quality in both breadth and depth of patient management; AND be in possession of a license to practice medicine in Arizona granted by the Arizona State Board of Medical Examiners or the Arizona State Board of Osteopathic Examiners. Applicant must provide license number on resume and a copy at time of interview. PREFERRED CANDIDATE: Will possess experience working with mentally ill patients in a correctional setting. Employment is contingent on the successful applicant passing a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test. Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
