Description: | THE POSITION The Adult Corrections Facility (ACF), located in Plymouth, MN, is a confinement center for adult offenders committed by the courts to serve a maximum sentence of one year. Correctional Officers promote public safety and provide for victim restoration by holding offenders accountable and by providing opportunities for change through assessment and supervision. We are seeking candidates who share our Mission: Community Safety, Community Restoration, and Offender Change. The list created by this announcement will be used to fill one full-time (benefit-earning) Correctional Officer vacancy and may be used to fill future full-time (benefit-earning) Correctional Officer positions. MOST SHIFTS WILL BE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS, AND SOME OVERNIGHTS. The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include: Enforce Minnesota statutes and American Correctional Association standards relating to prisoner confinement Escort residents, maintain order and discipline including breaking up fights, physically restraining, and controlling resisting and uncooperative residents Search residents for contraband (drugs, weapons) Enforce security regulations, rules of conduct, and work rules Observe resident behavior (looking for odd types of behavior or socially withdrawn behavior to prevent suicide or acting out harmfully to themselves, or violently with staff or other residents) and report (verbally or written) these observations to medical or social service personnel May participate in work crew activity (laundry, kitchen, industrial production, stockroom, cleaning and grounds maintenance) May search for and return escapees Recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services Best Qualified Candidates will have: One of the following: At least two years full-time work experience in corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, military service (honorably discharged), or security At least two years of college or vocational/technical coursework in corrections, law enforcement, sociology, psychology, or related criminal justice or behavioral science field A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record with no more than two moving violations within the last three years Ability to work effectively with an increasingly diverse client population Ability to demonstrate the employee competencies Under State of Minnesota law, certain criminal convictions disqualify persons from employment in this job classification.
