Description: The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is the largest Sheriff's Office in Minnesota with about 750 employees. It is headquartered in downtown Minneapolis with divisions and unit facilities spread throughout the county. Over 1.3 million people live in Hennepin County, which is made up of 46 jurisdictions (45 cities, and one unorganized municipality).

Hennepin County Public Safety Facility staff admit and process about 35,000 people a year, with nearly 700 offenders in the jail at any given time. Inmates of the Hennepin County Jail are pre-trial detainees. Inmates who are sentenced are then sent to the Hennepin County Workhouse (Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation) for sentences under one year in length, or to prison (Minnesota Department of Corrections) for sentences of one year and over.

Detention Deputies maintain security and inmate accountability to prevent disturbances, assaults, and escapes.
