County Information: Clallam County was established in 1854. Clallam County is located on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State in the farthest northwest corner of the continental United States, framed by the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the great Pacific Ocean. Clallam County is a predominately rural county, which provides unique accessibility to a natural environment, which includes Olympic National Park and Vancouver Island, BC. County offices are located in Port Angeles (population ± 20,000) which is a short ferry ride from Victoria, B.C. and approximately two hours travel time from downtown Seattle. The County's land area is 1,752 square miles with 200 miles of coastline. The county seat is Port Angeles. There are three incorporated communities: Port Angeles, Sequim and Forks. Historically abundant in natural resource industries, Clallam County has identified six indigenous industries in which assets and resources compliment growth. They are marine services, forest resources, agriculture, technology, tourism and education. Population: 71,404 (2010 census) Department Information: The Sheriff of Clallam County is William L. Benedict. Sheriff Benedict took office in January 2007 and heads a department of 87 employees including 26 deputies, 28 corrections deputies, 10 support services, 2 emergency management, 2 code enforcement, 2 evidence managers, 2 jail medical staff and many volunteers. Department Organization: The Undersheriff is Ron Peregrin, Chief Criminal Deputy is Ron Cameron, Chief Corrections Deputy is Ron Sukert and Chief Civil Deputy is Alice Hoffman. There are 6 patrol sergeants and 5 corrections sergeants. The Sheriff's Department has detachments in the City of Forks and the City of Sequim. Job Requirements Age: Minimum 21 years of age at time of employment. US Citizen: Yes High School Grad/GED: Yes Valid WASHINGTON State Driver's License: Washington State Driver's License at time of employment and driving record acceptable to the County’s Risk Manager and insurance carrier. Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes Vision: 20/100 uncorrected and correctable to 20/20 in each eye. Academy Certification: We will send you for training at the WA State Criminal Justice Training Commission, unless you already have your corrections academy certificate. Additional Testing: Successfully pass all testing and examinations which measure ability to perform essential job functions. These tests may include but are not limited to physical agility, written, oral, skill, polygraph, psychological, medical, and background examination.
Special Instructions: Important information for the Adult Corrections Deputy Candidate: Clallam County tests continuously for Adult Corrections Deputy positions, even when there are no positions actively available. We encourage you to proceed with the testing process so your test scores are available and your application is on file when a vacancy does occur. Clallam County Human Resources will send you an employment application once you have received passing scores on the testing administered by National Testing Network. You must pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT), receive a minimum passing score of 70% on the video, a minimum passing score of 70% on the reading test, and a passing score on the report writing test in order to receive further consideration in the hiring process. Once your completed County application has been received and reviewed, our Corrections Department will notify you when a position becomes available and they are ready to schedule your oral board evaluation. It may be several weeks or even months before this occurs, due to the economy and current County budget constraints. Select the department and read over all the requirements and if qualified, select a testing location and a time and date for testing on the website calendar. You will then schedule your PAT.
