| Description: | This is a "Central Office" or Headquarters position aligned under the Navy's Corrections Branch Head located within the office of the Deputy Director and Director of the Correctional agency. This is a Correctional Program Specialist, GS-0006-13, position located at Navy Personnel Command, Millington, TN. The incumbent in this position will provide technical assistance, develop/implement and review policies for the Navy's worldwide Corrections Program, and supervise Corrections Branch personnel. DUTIES: · Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in policy, oversight, and program management of corrections (jail and prison). · Serve as a SME in development and assessment of correctional administrative, support, and rehabilitative programs. · Develop and coordinate changes to corrections policy. · Interpret corrections policy and resolve misunderstandings to such policies. · Provide broad and specific guidelines to commanding officers, regional commanders, and fleet commanders regarding corrections operations, staffing, training, physical security and plant design. · Conduct on-site evaluations of correctional facilities and operations of ashore and afloat brigs, detention facilities, and correctional custody units. · Determine training requirements/needs of corrections personnel. · Determine personnel requirements for correctional facility operations. · Determine corrective action(s) necessary to bring non-compliant corrections facilities/operations into compliance. · Prepare and present reports and briefings related to on-site evaluations of correctional facilities. |
