Description: An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result. SHIFT WORK REQUIRED: 24/7 FACILITY - SHIFTS REQUIRE WORKING DAYS, NIGHTS, WEEKENDS and HOLIDAYS All application components must be submitted by 10:00 PM MT. Candidates who pass the minimum screening requirements will be invited to test via email. Below are the preliminary due dates or attendance dates for the hiring process: Typing Test - 35 Net WPM Required Computer Literacy online assessment Pre-employment Questionnaire Pass written examination - Scheduled to occur on November 1, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. Oral Board Interview - Scheduled to occur on November 3, 2016 Pass an in-depth background investigation Pass a polygraph examination Pass a psychological evaluation and medical exam, including drug test Pass a physical assessment test based on the essential job functions The Jail Booking Specialist processes inmates into the custody of the Larimer County Jail. Releases inmates from the custody of the Larimer County Jail. Maintains the computer and paper record of all inmates held at the Larimer County Jail. Operates the CCIC / NCIC computer system. The following statements are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of the job. The organization retains the right to modify or change the duties and responsibilities of the job at any time. Receives general supervision from Jail Booking Corporal and Jail Booking Sergeant. May exercise indirect supervision over lower-level positions or may function as a Field Training Officer. Exercises direct supervision over inmates held in the booking room at the Larimer County Jail. Processes and releases inmates while maintaining accuracy of all tracked information. Maintains accuracy, confidentiality, and security of all records and work area. Reads and comprehends legal and non-legal documents, including the processing of documents such as medical instructions, commitment orders, summons, and other legal writs and court documents. Uses interpersonal communication skills to communicate with inmates, professional visitors, and the public by providing information and directions, mediating disputes, and advising of rights and processes. Prepares a variety of reports using appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Process reports as appropriate (i.e., file, alphabetize, label, etc.). Provides customer service within the Booking area including providing information to interested parties, collecting fees and documents, and taking in and releasing property. Enters data into computer systems or databases; look-ups information in database; creates basic word processor documents and enters data into spreadsheets; uses email to communicate. Performs crisis intervention functions to include inmate counseling, suicide prevention, recognizing abnormal behavior, and implementing appropriate intervention action. Exercises independent judgment in determining appropriate classification of inmates and assessing and responding to the needs of special populations. Demonstrates competent communication skills in court and other formal settings. Performs searches of objects capable of concealing contraband. Briefs oncoming booking staff concerning events impacting shift. Operates CCIC/NCIC computer for teletypes and queries of records related to vehicles, persons, or articles of interest. Be subject to verbal and mental abuse when confronted with the hostile views and opinions of inmates and other people encountered in an antagonistic environment. Uses radio, intercom, and telephone communications systems to communicate effectively and coherently with office personnel and inmates and use other office communications systems as necessary. Conducts visual and audio surveillance of inmates for extended periods of time. Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and forms. Detects the presence of conditions such as smoke, unusual or excessive noise, odors, etc. Ensures all equipment is operable; report maintenance problems. Answers telephones and takes independent action as necessary. Assists in training new Jail Booking Specialists. Performs other duties as assigned or necessary for performance of the job. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with diverse groups, which includes the public, inmates, staff, other criminal justice agency personnel, and County government staff. Performs a variety of clerical tasks such as maintaining accurate records, report preparation, and answering telephones. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Basic principles and procedures of detention, judicial system and incarceration. Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Routine software and business applications, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases. Operation of standard office equipment including fax machines, copiers, and computers. Supervise people from diverse groups. Learn to operate security and communications equipment. Learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations. Type 35 words per minute. Work under stress and exercise good judgment in emergency situations. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Accurately apply procedures and policies and assess situations and people. Communicate effectively orally, in writing and via various forms of electronic media. Use office automation systems, including basic proficiency with computer applications such as e-mail, word processor, spreadsheet and database look-up and/or entry. Work a rotating shift schedule to include weekends, holidays, days and nights. Colorado State laws. Constitutional case law pertaining to the Jail environment. Colorado criminal laws that pertain to the Jail environment. Perform duties independently without close supervision. Use independent judgment as to proper course of action. Qualifications: One year experience comparable to that of a Jail Booking Specialist. High School diploma or GED required. Physical Requirements: Must be able to: Sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time. Get into and out of a chair repeatedly. Stoop, bend, stretch, twist, reach, kneel, crawl, squat, climb, and balance. Push or pull to manually open or shut heavy doors (10#). Lift bins containing inmate personal belongings weighing 20#. STRENGTH: LIGHT - Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of Sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. MOVEMENT: Constantly - 5 ½ to 8 hours/day BALANCING - Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces; or maintaining body equilibrium when performing feats of agility. STOOPING - Bending body downward and forward. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. KNEELING - Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees. CROUCHING - Bending body downward and for-ward by bending legs and spine. CRAWLING - Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. REACHING - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. HANDLING - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand. FINGERING - Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling. FEELING - Perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. AUDITORY: Not Limited TALKING - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. HEARING - perceiving the nature of sounds. Used for those activities which require ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sounds, such as when making fine adjustments on running engines. VISION: Required NEAR ACUITY - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Use this factor when special and minute accuracy is demanded. FAR ACUITY - Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Use this factor when visual efficiency in terms of far acuity is required in day and night/dark conditions. DEPTH PERCEPTION - Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. ACCOMMODATION - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. Use this factor when requiring near point work at varying distances. COLOR VISION - Ability to identify and distinguish colors. FIELD OF VISION - Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Use this factor when job performance re-quires seeing a large area while keeping the eyes fixed. WORK ENVIRONMENT: ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL SURROUNDINGS - EXPOSURE Constantly - 5 ½ to 8 hours/day NOISE - Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds or a pitch or level sufficient to cause marked distraction or possible hearing loss. CONFINED/RESTRICTED WORKING ENVIRONMENT - Work is performed in a closed or locked facility providing safety and security for clients, inmates, or fellow workers. EQUIPMENT UTILIZED Office equipment such as computer, projector, copier, fax etc. HAZARDS Occasionally - 1/4 to 2 1/2 hours/day Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Exposure to dust, fumes, gases or airborne particles. Exposure to blood born pathogens.
