Kentucky Deputy Jailer Indicted
By Associated Press
Published: 08/21/2002

A federal grand jury has indicted a deputy jailer on a charge of assaulting an inmate who died of his injuries nearly a month later.
Robert Price, 36, and two other deputy jailers have been on administrative leave since the March 17 beating at the Boyd County Detention Center.
A spokeswoman in the U.S. attorney's office in Lexington would not comment on whether additional indictments are being sought.
The inmate, Chad Boggess, 27, had been booked March 15 on a fugitive warrant in connection with an alleged home robbery in Charleston. He died in a hospital April 11.
Coroner Philip Neal ruled Boggess' death a homicide. He said Boggess died because he was placed face down on the floor with his hands shackled behind him, causing strangulation. Boggess added that blunt force injuries to the head contributed to the death.
It wasn't immediately known if Price had an attorney.
