A Rock Hill man who authorities say escaped from the York County Detention Center by posing as another inmate has turned himself in to authorities. Antonio Dermon Dendy, 28, was charged with escape, as well as his previous charge of forgery - a violation of his probation. Dendy's father, Lorenzo, said Friday the incident was a mistake and that his son did not know that he had signed bond papers for another inmate - 20-year-old Derek Jon Danley - until he discovered he had taken Danley's personal belongings. 'It was all a blunder,' Lorenzo Dendy said. 'It was definitely not an escape. They let him out without any restraint whatsoever.' Danley also was released Wednesday after officers discovered the mix up. The officer who released Dendy without checking Danley's photo identification was written up and disciplined. |
