| Cake Shaped Like Penis Gets Conn. Corrections Employees Suspended |

An acting warden and a correction department captain were given 10-day suspensions October 1 for allowing a cake shaped like male genitalia to be brought into the Janet S. York Correctional Institution in Niantic. Maj. Lora Castronova, who was serving as acting warden, and Capt. Wayne Ford were on duty Aug. 8 when an unidentified lieutenant brought the cake into the facility to celebrate the birthday of an unidentified captain. The suspensions begin today and end Oct. 17. Ford will return to York following the suspension. Castronova has been told to report to the Manson Youth Institution in Cheshire when she resumes her duties. The cake was initially brought into Ford's office. He was directed by Castronova to get rid of it. Instead, he had the cake placed in an overhead cabinet, and it was later presented and served at the party. Other suspensions are expected, correction officials said. |
