A Hocking County woman was released on a signature bond recently after her arraignment in Athens County Common Pleas Court on two sexual battery charges. Emily Lynn Dunkle, 24, of Logan, was arrested September 28 for allegedly having had sex with two 17-year-old males who were serving time in the Hocking Valley Community Residential Center in Nelsonville, where she worked as a counselor. The facility houses non-violent juvenile felony offenders. Dunkle is accused of having had sex with one of the young inmates between September and October of last year, and with the other on an occasion in January 2002. Athens County Prosecutor David Warren said last week that the alleged sexual activity was reported to authorities in an anonymous letter, leading to an investigation. Warren said the sex was apparently consensual on the young men's parts, 'as much as a 17-year-old can consent,' but that Dunkle's offense is more serious because the youths were under her care in a state facility. The prosecutor said another woman, Dawn Weaver, a 28-year-old former employee of the Nelsonville facility, faces charges of contributing to the crime. It is alleged that Dunkle took one of the juveniles out of the facility and transported him to Weaver's home in Athens County for sex with her. Dunkle was released from jail on a signature bond promising to pay $5,000 if she does not show up for future hearings in her case. |
