The man police call a dangerous sexual predator who was mistakenly freed on bail is in custody. Sources tell WQAD that Will County authorities picked up Gregory White, 31, at a gas station around 12:30. White and his family were in contact with authorities throughout this past weekend working out the terms of his surrender. Police in Joliet, Illinois say a judge let White, 31, actually walked right out of prison on Monday. Police in Will County say White was awaiting a transfer to the Department of Human Services because a jury felt he was a danger to society. While in the Joliet prison, White hit an officer, and he went before a judge Monday for aggravated battery charges. This is where the mistake was made, according to the Will County Sheriff's Department. The judge didn't know of White's criminal record-which dates back to 1989 in the Quad Citieis--and let him post bail. Court records show White has been in and out of prison in Rock Island County for having sex with at least two minors. |
