An Indiana woman was allegedly caught on tape smuggling contraband to her boyfriend in jail. Police said their surveillance cameras recently recorded a woman driving up to the Johnson County Jail around 1:30 a.m. 'One of the people that was in the control center noticed a vehicle. It stopped, a female got out of the car and threw an item over the fence,' Det. Duane Burgess said. Officials said they found a Wonder Bread bag filled with prohibited tobacco and 26 illegal prescription pills (pictured, right). The jailers took the bag and replace it with a decoy to see who might pick it up, RTV reported. 'The next morning, around 10 o'clock, the day shift officers were walking and they noticed this person on camera walking around, pick it up and put it into his pants and bring it back into the facility,' Corporal Tim White said. 'At that point he was busted.' Officials said the inmate who picked up the bag was on the verge of being released, but will now face new charges. The woman who dropped off the alleged contraband was charged with trafficking with an inmate, a C felony punishable by up to four years in prison and a $10,000 fine, Morriston reported. If convicted, the woman could end up serving more time behind bars than the inmate she allegedly tried to smuggle contraband to. The inmate was charged with possession of a controlled substance and could receive three more years behind bars. |
