A convicted killer was on the loose Sunday after he scaled a razor wire fence at the Assumption Parish jail and disappeared, authorities said. Lionel 'Keedie' Williams Jr., 26, and another inmate climbed over the 15-foot high fence at dusk Saturday, according to Farrell Gros, the jail warden. The warden said Williams' last known address was listed in Belle Rose. The other inmate, Quintal Davis, 22, of Napoleonville turned himself in to authorities, Gros said. A state police helicopter, police dogs and search teams combed the cane fields surrounding the jail but failed to track Williams down, Gros said. Williams was due for sentencing Monday for a conviction of second-degree murder, Gros said. He had been housed in the jail since May 2000. Williams was cut and bruised from scaling the triple-stranded razor wire fence, Gros said. Gros described Williams as 6-feet 5-inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. He also has a tattoo of an anchor on his torso, Gros said. After escaping from jail, Davis went to his family's house and his mother and father talked him into turning himself in to authorities, Gros said. Davis was awaiting trial on charges of attempted first degree-murder, attempted aggravated assault and probation violations, according to Gros. Davis will now face attempted aggravated escape charges, Gros said. |
